There’s something about this time of year that makes my heart so happy. Here in Illinois, the mornings have been crisp and cool, the windows are open, and my kitchen has been filled with the cozy scent of fall baking. Slowly but surely, I’ve been tucking away my summer décor and bringing in those deep rusts and warm browns that make a house feel like autumn. I’ve been soaking it all in.
But if I’m being honest, that peaceful, cozy feeling stands in sharp contrast to the chaos swirling in other parts of my life. Work pressures, family needs, homekeeping struggles, and new routines have been creeping in. I’m navigating a career shift, my faith is stretching and growing, and my son’s homeschool hybrid program has shaken up our schedule this year. Life just feels… messy. Overwhelming at times.
And yet—I know that’s not where I’m meant to stay, and it’s not where God wants me to settle either.
So today, I want to chat with you (friend to friend, coffee cup in hand) about finding peace right in the middle of the chaos. I don’t know what your chaos looks like, but I can imagine it touches work, family, school, personal struggles—maybe even some deep, heavy things weighing on your heart. Life is messy. But here’s the good news: Jesus offers us real peace.

God’s Gift of Peace
Peace isn’t something we have to chase after—it’s something God freely gives.
- John 14:27 (NLT): “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”
- Philippians 4:6–7 (NLT): “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”
When life feels heavy, prayer and thanksgiving open the door for God’s peace to step in and guard our hearts.
- Isaiah 26:3 (NLT): “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!”
Peace doesn’t mean everything magically gets easy—it means our hearts stay anchored to God rather than tossed around by circumstances.
Proverbs 3:5–6 (NLT): “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”

Learning to Let Go
I’ll be the first to admit—I’ve wrestled with control. For years, I believed if I could just control things, life would feel safer, calmer, better. But eventually I realized: nothing is truly in my control… and that’s actually good news, because everything is in God’s hands.
One small (and funny) example: for the longest time, I had to control the TV remote in our house. Always. Then one day, my husband took it, and I remember the tension I felt as he fast-forwarded commercials differently than I would. My jaw clenched, my tongue almost slipped with “corrections”—but I stayed quiet. Eventually, I let him keep the remote, and it became a little symbol of freedom for me. A reminder that letting go doesn’t mean things fall apart—it means I get to rest.
Since childhood, I’ve craved control because so much around me felt unpredictable. But God has gently taught me: I don’t need to be in control, because He is. Life will never be perfect this side of heaven—but we have a perfect God directing our steps.
- Colossians 3:15 (NLT): “And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.”

Everyday Ways to Invite God’s Peace
Here are a few simple, cozy, practical ways to walk in God’s peace—right in the middle of your messy, beautiful life:
End your day with release. Before bed, hand it all over:
“Lord, I give You my work, my family, my struggles. I trust You to hold it while I rest.” (Psalm 4:8)
Start with Scripture. Open your Bible (or the Bible app!) first thing if you can. Begin with a short prayer: “Lord, open my heart to Your Word today.” Read a translation that feels easy to follow (I love NLT and NIV). Even a short passage can shift your whole day.
Whisper a mantra when stress rises. Something as simple as:
“Lord, I trust You. Guard my heart with Your peace.”
or “Lord, steady my heart. Be my peace.”
Set up visual reminders. Write a verse about peace on a sticky note for your desk, bathroom mirror, or car dash. Let Scripture greet you where you need it most.
Breathe and reset. When the weight builds up, pause and breathe deeply. Remind yourself: peace isn’t about my circumstances—it’s about my Savior.
Create a “Peace Kit.” Fill a recipe box with prayer cards and verses for specific struggles—“chaos,” “fear,” “anxiety,” etc.—so you can pull one out and speak truth over your day when you need it most.
Journal the journey. Write down your prayers, struggles, and gratitude. Over time, it becomes a beautiful record of God’s faithfulness in your life.
Simplify. Cut out some noise. Turn off background chatter and play calming music instead. Peace often shows up when we clear space for it.
Take a walk. Fresh air and movement do wonders for the soul.
Make time for cozy stillness. Sip coffee, read a chapter of a good book, or sit outside for a few minutes—just be.
Friend, let’s remember that peace isn’t something we earn—it’s a gift we can step into each day, even when life feels messy or overwhelming. I hope today’s ideas inspire you to pause, breathe, and invite God’s calming presence into your everyday chaos.
