Some of my favorite things are candles, essential oils, coffee, and tea shopping! Every day I have one cup of coffee in the morning and then switch to tea throughout the day. There’s just something about sipping on some warm and cozy tea or a fresh glass of iced tea while I am working that just hugs my heart. I look forward to it. I also love to enjoy a cup at night before bed to help get extra relaxed. But aside from the warm fuzzies I get, there are some really amazing health benefits to drinking tea too.
Quick disclaimer, I am not a doctor or a tea expert, these are just facts I found through research and my personal opinions. This post is also not sponsored I just really love tea!
Let’s jump in!
Antioxidant – need I say more?
Antioxidants are substances that help protect your cells against free radicals. They protect the skin by limiting the production of free radicals which can damage skin cells. In short, they clean up by removing waste products from our cells –free radicals.
I’m all about preventative beauty health and if drinking a cup of afternoon tea might somehow promote good skin, I am in!
It’s anti-inflammatory
Having hypothyroidism and being diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, ant-inflammatory items are a big deal for me. I have a lot of aches and pains due to inflammation and I really try to combat that with as many anti-inflammatory alternatives like green, turmeric, ginger, etc. I love having several different blends of teas on hand for this purpose alone.
Tea reduces the risk of dying from certain chronic diseases.
A study proved that regular consumption reduced the risk of dying from heart disease, stroke, and some cancers.
It’s good for your brain health
I’ve also heard that it can help decrease the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and having seen several cases of this horrible disease first hand, I will do what I can to avoid it. Since there is no found cure, drinking green and black can improve memory and increase attention span – another great reason to drink a cup while you work.
It improves oral health.
I can attest to this first hand. Growing up I had horrible experiences at the dentist. Cavities nearly every visit and root canals, I dreaded going to the dentist. I can honestly say since drinking tea daily, I have not had any cavities. Since it contains fluoride and can improve bacterial populations in the mouth. So drink a cup a day if your teeth have issues and see what happens!
It’s hydrating.
I don’t know about you, but It’s tough for me to meet my daily quota of water each day no matter how hard I try. I love the fact that while I enjoy my mug I am also getting in some extra hydration.
It’s good for the gut.
I’m guessing you may have heard of gut health? Your gut actually has a huge impact on the health of your entire body. A healthy gut = a healthy immune system, heart health, brain health, improved mood, healthy sleep, and effective digestion. Bonus points, it can also lead to health effects like carbohydrate absorption, improved blood sugar levels, and weight loss. Love that last part! 😉
What’s in my tea cabinet?
This changes by season for me but currently its cold and winter and here’s some of what I have.
Yogi Products – I love these solely for the cute little quotes on every bag tag. But not only that, they taste amazing. My local health food store carries this brand and I currently have the Honey Lemon Throat Coat, Purely Peppermint , and Women’s Raspberry Leaf for my time of the month, Cold Season Tea, and Cinnamon Berry Probiotic Balance.
Coffee Drop Shop – I love taking a little shopping excursion to this shop nearby. They carry a very large variety of flavors and I currently have Several canisters full of all different types from leftover holiday favorites, Gunpowder Green, Chai, Chamomile, Joint Relief Blend,
Earl Gray
English Breakfast
Ginger
Peppermint
Spice & Tea Merchants – I just ventured in this little shop this past weekend. They had a great variety of teas and I picked up a Spa Blend and Turmeric Comfort. I am excited to try the Turmeric Comfort tonight while relaxing on the couch.
Culinary Teas Inc. – Here’s another shop I found on my little shopping trip. Another great mix to choose from. I ended up grabbing the Arthritis Anti-Inflammatory Blend and a Gunpowder Green Mint. I am drinking the Green mint now and it is so good and minty! Refreshing. It would be really good iced in the summer too.
What are some of your favorite teas to drink? Do you change them out by season?
